The New York Daily News reports Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan will be the next head coach of the Jets "barring an unexpected development."

Jan. 19 (Bloomberg) -- The New York Jets signed Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan to a four-year contract to coach the team, Newsday reported without citing where it go the information.

Other applicants then Ryan, 46, were New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, who was hired Sunday to coach the St. Louis Rams; Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer; and Arizona Cardinals assistant Russ Grimm.

The agreement may be similar to the four-year, $11.5 million contract Spagnuolo signed with the St. Louis Rams this weekend, Newsday reported
