1. Bill Cowher, former Steelers coach: Instant credibility. Woody Johnson must get The Chin. Spent 15 years with Steelers, made the playoffs 10 times. Was 1-1 in the Super Bowl.
2. Steve Spagnuolo, Giants defensive coordinator: The hottest assistant coach. Worked under Andy Reid and Tom Coughlin. His players love him. Very aggressive.
3. Jim Schwartz, Titans defensive coordinator: Worked with GM Mike Tannenbaum in Cleveland, so he has an in. Success of rookie coaches Mike Smith, Tony Sparano and John Harbaugh could help him.
4. Mike Holmgren, former Packers, Seahawks coach: He's worth a phone call. Would probably guarantee Brett Favre's return. He turned down Jets in 1990. Seems committed to taking year off.
5. Bill Parcells, former Giants, Pats, Jets, Cowboys coach: What list would be complete without The Tuna? Did incredible job rebuilding Dolphins this year. Quit on Woody as coach one year, GM the next.
6. Leslie Frazier, Vikings defensive coordinator: He put together the No. 1 rush defense in the league and defense got them to playoffs, overcoming Tarvaris Jackson/Gus Frerotte QB tandem.
7. Jim Fassel, former Giants coach: This is sixth hiring cycle since Giants fired him. Coaches who never got to Super Bowl have received second chances. He deserves another shot.
8. Josh McDaniels, Patriots offensive coordinator: Would Jets go back to Belichick coaching tree after grabbing Mangini? Only if he could convince Pats not to franchise Matt Cassel.
9. Jim Caldwell, Colts associate head coach: He's already been named as Tony Dungy's replacement with no indication when Dungy will quit. Could get tired of waiting.
10. Marty Schottenheimer, former Browns, Chiefs, Redskins, Chargers coach: With son Brian as offensive coordinator, Jets would lead league in Schottenheimers.
