Despite a late-season collapse, the New York Jets have retained Brian Schottenheimer as their offensive coordinator.
The Jets have not worked out the details on a new deal for the 35-year-old Schottenheimer, who secured his return for a fourth season Saturday. He had one year remaining on his existing contract.
The Jets lost four of their last five games to miss the playoffs following an 8-3 start but new head coach Rex Ryan apparently elected not to make a change.
"I believe Brian Schottenheimer is going to stay," Jets owner Woody Johnson said earlier in the week in radio interviews.
"I believe (Ryan) thinks this is the best thing."
While quarterback Brett Favre threw a league-high 22 interceptions in his first season with the Jets, New York scored 405 points, the league's ninth-best mark.
It marked only the third time in franchise history that the Jets surpassed 400 points in a season.
Running back Thomas Jones paced the AFC in rushing with 1,312 yards.
